Kona Airport

Solar Powered Parking Lot Lights

Project Information

SEPA170-DS-SB35LPS-DTD-ST5

SEPCO provided 32 solar powered parking lot lights for the Kona Airport in Hawaii. Each system fixture uses cut off optics, is dark sky approved and features turtle friendly low pressure sodium lamps. The lamps have been sized to run from dusk to dawn, can power through five days of inclement weather and withstand up to 150 mph winds. The system provides security for travelers returning on late flights, while minimizing the artificial lighting effects on local wildlife such as sea turtles and birds. The systems also needed to be light pollution free due to the nearby telescope. The new systems will help the airport save on utility costs and preserve the beautiful Hawaiian environment.
